(reflections about life on mission)
This is ministry:
showing up at the same pew each Sunday,
cultivating community in small group,
talking about faith,
serving those in need.
I speak first to myself as I write these words.
Often the little moments of everyday life are overlooked in search of something greater to do to serve the Lord. The mundane is sacrificed for the grandiose. Yet ministry is foundationally about relationship. Relationship takes dedicated time in one place; pouring out one’s heart and soul for the people, humanity. Relationship takes nothing less than your whole self in humble submission.
Life with God, through the mindset of mundane ministry, invites us to be present in the place we have been planted. While dreaming into the future, we are encouraged not to forget to cherish the gifts of today.
Today you can:
text a friend to let them know you are thinking of them,
show up to work with joy,
welcome people into your home,
smile at your neighbor… or the person who cut you off in traffic.
This is ministry.
