(adventure-time thoughts)
raindrops on windshields and emerald-green grasses
bright colored candies and fog on my glasses
black-capped chickadees welcoming spring
these are a few of my favorite things
“Let the heavens be glad,
let the earth rejoice.
Let the sea roar – and all that fills it
Let the land exult – and all that is in it
Then all the trees of the forest
will sing for joy –
before ADONAI, for He is coming!
For He is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
and the peoples in His faithfulness”
(Psalm 96:11-13)
Any observer could hear the earth rejoicing yesterday. While the rain pittered and pattered, the light-filled leaves revealed the glory of God. Damp bark accentuated the bulbs and blossoms for anyone who cared to see. Every ascent and decent, twist and turn, on the mountain roads led to a beautiful scenery exulting and singing for joy.
God’s faithfulness to His people is no less majestic than the scenery of a spring shower in the mountains. Such experiences may be a short jaunt from my home, but more often I keep to my normal ways and routines. In the midst of admiring the beauty from afar, engagement becomes lacking and immersion an inconvenience. Nature reveals the eternal truths etched in God’s character, those characteristics are right there for us to engage with, yet often we (His people) choose a way of lesser resistance. His faithfulness remains even when ours wanes, His desire unceasing.
Despite feelings of separation or isolation during certain seasons, the desire for God has only grown with each passing year. Each year… day… hour… minute… is a moment closer to His return – oh how my heart longs for that day. Instead of fear of judgement, God reminds me of the reunion it will be when He returns – unity of true desire, truth, and love. If He reveals Himself to a Fort Collins girl so tenderly and loving during a rainstorm in the mountains, hunkered down in a car with peanut butter m&ms and fresca, surely His coming is to be much more anticipated.
While I wait – I will sing.
“Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and glory are in his sanctuary”
(Psalm 96:1-6)
